Hope & C.J. Miller
Hope was running in her 7th grade P.E.class and began to experience shortness of breath and elevated blood pressure the following day. Upon visiting her primary care physician, the doctor discovered that her breathing sounded like she had swallowed a whoopie cushion. Hope was referred to a pulmonologist that found a collapsed lung with a growth on it. Hope was diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma. Four days later, Hope had surgery to remove her collapsed lung and tumor. Her subsequent scans continue to show she is cancer free.
Unfortunately, our journey was far from over. In the middle of January, 2020, our son C.J. began to complain of fatigue and joint pain. In a tall young man that had just finished a growth spurt, this seemed normal. However, the issue began to become more complicated when the pain and fatigue continued and were now accompanied by high fevers that would not break. An urgent care visit would lead us to the E.R. and another conversation with an oncology team. C.J. was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and has been on a roller coaster ride of clinic visits, hospital stays, procedures, and feedings ever since. After completing three rounds of chemotherapy, C.J. is in remission.
C.J.’s journey continues, and Hope will still be monitored by her doctors. Two children, one family, both with cancer. This family continues to fight and we are thankful to share their journey!
